Slow down, keep quiet and think. This is the Ride of Silence in a nutshell. Wednesday, May 18 6:15pm, cyclists from the greater Rochester area will gather at Penfield's highway dept. parking lot (on Jackson Rd) for the national 12th annual RoS and Rochester's 5th.
We will ride a 9 mile loop in about an hour, in silence. Only the sounds of our bikes and the surrounds will accompany out thoughts of those riders who have been injured or died while cycling. Everyone is welcome, from the club wannabe racers to the casual canal path coasters. The only requirement besides a bike and helmet is the desire to honor the fallen.
The national organization has designed an event jersey available through their website http://www.rideofsilence.org . These jerseys come in men's, cut with an athletic fit, for $85. Delivery is direct from the manufacturer. To insure receiving them in time for May 18 they recommend ordering prior to April 10.
So place the date on your calendar. Take a break from the usual mid-week activities and give an hour of your life to those who lost theirs.
